Juan Eduardo Figueroa’s practice areas are construction, infrastructure, real estate and arbitration. He is a founder, and member of the board of directors, of the Chilean Society of Construction Law. He is a former judge of the Supreme Court of Chile and an arbitrator in public concessions works in Chile. He serves as an arbitrator on the Chilean Chamber of Commerce panel in Santiago (1998-) in more than 40 cases, including ad hoc arbitration. In the field of international arbitration, Juan Eduardo has a vast experience as a chair and co-arbitrator in ICC cases related mainly to EPC construction contracts of bioethanol plant in Uruguay and a biodiesel gasplant in Argentina; a sub-construction contract thermoelectric plant in the north of Chile; and a highway project in Bolivia before the Bolivian Chamber of Commerce in La Paz.
He is a member of the the list of arbitrators at the Brazil-Canada Chamber of Arbitration in São Paulo, the Institute of Engineering Sao Paulo, FIESP, CAMFIEP, the Lima Chamber of Commerce and the Catholic University of Lima.
He has served as a chairman in four dispute boards concerning mining construction projects. He is professor of law at los Andes University in Chile, in charge of postgraduates studies in construction and real estate. His experience of the real estate, construction and infrastructure sectors in Chile spans more than 33 years, and enables his legal support at all stages of business for construction and real estate companies.
Juan Eduardo has a master´s degree in International law, international arbitration and investment from Heidelberg University, Germany.
