Joyce Honda is a partner of the competition law practice group of Cescon, Barrieu, Flesch & Barreto Advogados, based in São Paulo. Cescon Barrieu is one of the premier Brazilian law firms and has been known for its central role in the clients’ most strategic business transactions and disputes.
Cescon Barrieu’s competition department represents foreign and domestic clients including large corporate conglomerates, multinationals, financial institutions, funds, private equity firms, foreign governments and companies in all sectors of the economy.
Ms Honda has over 18 years of experience in obtaining merger clearances, defending clients involved in anticompetitive conduct including cartel cases and building compliance programmes to clients. She has significant expertise advising and representing clients in all aspects related to competition law.
Ms Honda received a law degree from the Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC/SP) in 2001 and holds an LLM degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and a postgraduate degree in economic law from Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV).
In 2007, she was at the Brazilian Permanent Mission to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in Geneva acting in cases involving international trade law.
Ms Honda is ranked in Chambers and Partners: Latin America and also recommended by The Legal 500: Latin America and other important publications in the field.
She is a member of the Brazilian Institute of Competition, Consumer and International Trade (IBRAC), and member of the task force on antitrust compliance and advocacy of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).
