Joseph Caleff is extensively experienced in managing hotel portfolios with a focus on financing, and sale and purchase transactions.

Biography

Josef Caleff (MRICS) heads Schellenberg Wittmer's real estate group in Zurich. He is a partner in the hotels and leisure group, and the corporate/mergers and acquisitions group; and a member of the firm's management committee. Josef advises clients in all types of commercial matters and M&A transactions, in particular advising hotel chains and investors on all legal matters in the hospitality industry including acquisitions, disposals, developments, construction, leasing and operations.

Some examples of Josef's expertise in hospitality include: regularly advising SV Group on the conclusion of long-term lease agreements for hotel projects with the franchisor Marriott; advising on the acquisition of a chain of Italian restaurants in Switzerland; and advising on the acquisition of a hotel in the north-west of Switzerland.  

Josef graduated from the University of St Gallen with master’s degrees in economics (1996) and law (1999), and was admitted to the Swiss Bar in 2002. He completed an LLM at UC Hastings in San Francisco in 2004, and was admitted to the New York Bar in 2006. He became a certified specialist with the SBA in construction and real estate law in 2013, and was elected as a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 2018.

Josef graduated from the University of St Gallen with a Master of Economics in 1996 and in Law in 1999. He was admitted to the Swiss Bar in 2002 and completed a master of laws (LLM) at UC Hastings in San Francisco in 2004. In 2006, he was admitted to the New York Bar. He became a certified specialist with the SBA in construction and real estate law in 2013 and was elected as a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 2018.
