José Ignacio García graduated as lawyer from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, Colombia, where he also completed his graduate studies in Administrative Law. He holds an Adv. LL.M. degree in Air and Space Law from Leiden University, The Netherlands. José Ignacio lectures on Procedural Law and Law of Aviation Insurance at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, is an IATA Air Law instructor, and a guest lecturer at the International Institute of Air and Space Law of Leiden University.
He is the founding partner of Garcíarboleda Abogados, where he leads the aviation litigation, regulatory and aircraft finance matters. Instructed by aviation insurers, José Ignacio defends air carriers, operators and the Civil Aviation Authority in aviation liability disputes and represents insurers in complex insurance coverage and subrogation claims, including major local and international aircraft losses. He also represents several airlines in passenger rights litigation, administrative proceedings commenced by the Civil Aviation Authority and the Superintendence of Transportation, and in proceedings before local courts related with aviation regulation.
José Ignacio advises major local and international air carriers, aviation insurance brokers, corporations and other local law firms in commercial and corporate aviation legal issues. He has acted as Colombian counsel in several commercial aircraft transactions involving operators based in Colombia and has provided advise on aircraft repossession matters.
