Jorge Luis Arenales de la Roca is well versed in managing corporate M&A transactions with a focus on regulated industries that includes the energy and TMT sectors.
Jorge Luis has been a partner at Arias since 1998. He is the head of the corporate and finance department in Guatemala. He specialises in advising corporations on mergers and acquisitions, and corporate and commercial matters. He has ample experience in regulated industries such as energy, oil and gas, telecommunications and project finance. Also, his experience includes corporate and civil litigation as well as commercial arbitration.
Jorge Luis has a law degree from Francisco Marroquín University in Guatemala (1998) and is authorised as a practising attorney and notary public by the Supreme Court of Justice of Guatemala. He attended the programme of negotiation for lawyers (PIL) at Harvard Law School, Cambridge. He obtained his LLM with honours from the Northwestern University School of Law and also obtained a certificate in business administration from the IE Business School in Madrid.
He taught mergers and acquisitions, as part of the LLM in finance, at the Francisco Marroquín University Business School, where he was also director of the continuous education seminars (2010-2012). He is an associate professor at the Francisco Marroquín University Law School; a member of the advisory committee of the Faculty of Law at Universidad del Istmo; and a guest speaker on the graduate studies programme on contemporary mercantile law updates, offered by Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala, the Institute of Mercantile Law and Colegio de Abogados y Notarios de Guatemala. He was named global ambassador in Guatemala for Northwestern University in April 2015.
