João Dácio Rolim is a celebrated adviser and litigator with exceptional insight in matters of tax avoidance, international tax, and trade and customs.

Biography

Dr João Dácio Rolim is the founder and chairperson of the law firm, Rolim Viotti & Leite Campos (RV&LC). He started his career working for KPMG and then PWC as a tax lawyer. After nine years of his tax practice he became a partner, and shortly set up his own law firm with other partners. He did two PhDs, the first in Brazil on domestic and comparative anti-avoidance taxation and the second in London (UK) at Queen Mary University of London in international taxation and trade. He combines this academic and practical experience in consultancy and litigation regarding tax avoidance and other tax issues.

Dr Rolim co-ordinates the international trade and tax department at RV&LC, comprising transactional matters. He assists clients on a myriad of domestic and cross-border transactions.

With over a hundred of articles published in Portuguese and English, including two books Normas antielisivas tributárias (tax anti-avoidance rules) - a comparative study, in 2001; and Proportionality and Fair Taxation, ed Kluwer International, in 2014, Mr Rolim is recognised as one of the world's leading lawyers in the field of taxation, being selected by Chambers Global Guide to the World’s Leading LawyersChambers Latin America Guide and the Latin Lawyer guide to Latin America’s leading lawyers as well as other specialised publications.

Dr Rolim has also been a consultant at UNECA (United Economic Commission for Africa) since 2015. He mostly lives in São Paulo (Brazil), spending around four months a year in Lisbon (Portugal) and London (UK).
