Biography

John Reiss is the global head of White & Case's mergers and acquisitions group. He has more than 30 years of experience representing parties in virtually all manner of M&A transactions in all industries.

The global mergers and acquisitions group includes more than 600 lawyers across all the firm's offices. In 2016, White & Case was ranked number one by deal value globally, according to Mergermarket and Bloomberg's M&A League Tables.

John's practice focuses on complex, multi-jurisdictional transactions, some of which have set new market precedents, and many of which have been recognised with national and international awards.

Such major deals include representing the Independent Directors of Mobile Mini (NASDAQ: MINI) in its US$6.6 billion merger of equals with WillScot (NASDAQ: WSC); SodaStream International (NASDAQ/TLV: SODA) in its US$3.2 billion sale to PepsiCo (NASDAQ: PEP); DIC Corporation, and its US subsidiary Sun Chemical Corporation, in connection with DIC’s €1.15 billion acquisition of BASF’s global pigments business; Roark Capital Group and its portfolio company, Arby’s Restaurant Group, in Arby’s US$2.9 billion acquisition of Buffalo Wild Wings (NASDAQ: BWLD); Roark Capital Group and Inspire Brands in the US$2.3 billion acquisition of Sonic (NASDAQ: SONC); Anthem’s US$54.2 billion proposed acquisition of Cigna Corporation; Fortis' US$11.3 billion acquisition of ITC Holdings; and Dr Dennis Gillings, the founder of Quintiles, in Quintiles’ merger with IMS Health Holdings for a combined enterprise value of more than US$23 billion.

A diverse range of US and international clients have benefited from John's experience. His clients, from a range of industries, include Anthem, DIC Corporation, DISH Network Corporation, Fortis, Hess, ICBC, Mobile Mini, Pilot Flying J, Regal Beloit, SodaStream, SSAB Svenskt Stål, Toyota Industries and Ahold; as well as a variety of private equity firms such as Cobepa, CVC Capital Partners, Dominus Capital, Harvest Partners, Quad-C Management and Roark Capital.

John received his JD from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1984. He also received his MBA and his BS (summa cum laude) from the Wharton School of Finance

and Commerce at the University of Pennsylvania in 1984 and 1981.
