Biography

Dr John Lancaster is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer with 36 years of experience spanning roles from a full mechanical apprenticeship, Design Engineer, Project Engineer and Project Manager, Functional Director of Project Controls & Planning (EPC/EPCM), General Management (EPC) and Delay Analyst Consultant including provision of Testifying Expert Witness Services.  

John has vast international experience having advised in relation to projects in 30 countries living and working in Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, U.S. and Australia. In particular, he has extensive oil & gas experience of both onshore and offshore projects including: oil refineries, tank farms, LNG liquefaction, LNG regasification, LPG plants, pipelines, FPSO and FSOs (conversion and new build), FLNG, shipyard fabrication, semi-submersibles, jack-ups, platforms, exploration drilling, offshore installation and petrochemicals.

John also has a significant track record with respect to mining & metallurgy, including mining processing facilities and extractive metallurgy process plants, as well as in the power and energy sector including in relation to nuclear, fossil fuel and cogeneration power plants. 

He has represented governmental bodies, IOCs and NOCs, EPCM and EPC contractors and sub-contractors, in both formal and informal dispute resolution. 

John has provided expert evidence in international arbitrations under the rules of ICC, LCIA, SIAC, AAA, AIAC and LMAA among others. He has been appointed 31 times, providing oral testimony at hearings on numerous occasions. The matters that John has been instructed on include a number of multi-billion-dollar disputes heard in London and New York with his expert evidence relating to issues of delay, disruption and project execution concerning numerous oil & gas and power disputes.

Biography

Dr John Lancaster is a chartered mechanical engineer with over 36 years of experience spanning roles from a full mechanical apprenticeship, design engineering, project management, project controls, planning and general management. John now practises as a testifying expert witness in delay and disruption analysis.

John has extensive experience in oil and gas, including exploration drilling, offshore field development, onshore LNG facilities, LPG plants, refineries, petrochemical plants, onshore and offshore pipelines, storage facilities, semi-submersible FPS, jack-ups, FPSOs, FLNG, etc. He has represented governmental bodies, international and national oil companies, EPCM contractors, EPC contractors, and lower tier sub-contractors, in both formal and informal dispute resolution.

His sector experience also covers the mining and metallurgy process sector including: onshore and offshore diamond mining, platinum mining, ilmenite processing and smelting, coal processing, aluminium smelting, and steel production. In the power sector, John’s experience includes working on coal fired, co-generation, combined cycle and nuclear power stations.

John has been appointed as an expert witness in numerous jurisdictions and has extensive geographical experience, having lived and worked in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, North America and Australia. Claims in which he has been appointed have ranged in value up to US$3 billion in dispute.

John’s key areas of expertise include delay and disruption analysis, and schedule risk analysis, within the energy and mining sectors.
