Biography

Ken McEwan practises corporate commercial, securities and competition litigation at both trial and appellate levels. His class action representations include 3M, Capital One and Cargill, for whom he successfully acted in the Supreme Court of Canada. He also has a significant arbitration practice and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. His peer review commendations include being ranked in band 1 of Chambers Global; a Martindale-Hubbell rating of AV; and repeated accolades as Benchmark’s British Columbia Litigator of the Year (2013–2016 and 2018–2020).

He is the president of the International Society of Barristers; a director of the Advocates’ Society, as well as chair of its national standing committee; a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers; a director of the American College of Trial Lawyers Canadian Foundation; and a fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. He has been appointed by the Law Society to its committee on relations with the judiciary, and was a long-standing member of the Attorney General’s rules revisions committee until April 2016. He is the author of the fourth edition of Sopinka on the Trial of an Action, and co-author of Commercial Arbitration in Canada: A Guide to Domestic and International Arbitrations and A Practitioner’s Guide to Commercial Arbitration.

Ken was appointed a QC in 2004.
