Isabel Bertoletti is a top-tier name in the Brazilian market and is renowned for her extensive direct taxation experience.
Since Machado Associados’ foundation, Isabel acts as a consultant specialized in taxation matters with emphasis on direct taxes in Brazil and Latin America. She has also an important role in advising on matters regarding mergers and acquisitions, investments abroad, and corporate restructuring, both in national territory and internationally.
She worked at the tax department of Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers) from 1984 to 1990, and as part of her professional training worked as auditor for two years. Ms Bertoletti was also a professor of fiscal accounting.
Her expertise comprises tax consultancy, domestic and international tax planning, structuring of mergers and acquisitions and joint ventures, corporate reorganisations, inbound and outbound investments and cross-border transactions. Ms Bertoletti has been providing advisory mostly for manufacturing, services and infrastructure industries (energy, toll roads, water and sanitation, harbours and airports).
In addition, Ms Bertoletti has large experience in international taxation, having been assisting for almost 25 years Brazilian companies expanding their businesses abroad or large multinational companies investing in other countries through their Brazilian subsidiaries.
In the last 10 years, Ms Bertoletti has also been acting as arbitrator at the Mediation and Arbitration Chamber of the Industries Federation of the State of São Paulo (CIESP/FIESP) particularly in complex disputes arising from M&A negotiations and related to the interpretation of provisions involving accounting and tax matters, as well as the effects in the ascertainment of the agreed price and post-closing adjustments.
