Hussein Haeri is a partner and co-head of the international arbitration group at Withers LLP and leads the firm's public international law practice.
He specialises in investment treaty and commercial arbitration, and public international law. He has acted as counsel and advocate in international arbitrations under the rules of ICSID, UNCITRAL, LCIA, ICC, SCC and SIAC, as well as ad hoc arbitrations, and is a solicitor-advocate of the Senior Courts of England and Wales. His clients include governments and multinational corporations as well as other international investors. His main areas of practice include international investment projects and disputes involving states, natural resources (including oil and gas, mining, and metals), infrastructure and joint ventures.
Hussein Haeri has served as counsel in state-state proceedings before the International Court of Justice and in national courts, including the courts of England and Wales, on public international law matters. He practised in New York and Paris before returning to London.
He is a member of the Faculty at the University of Rome, Roma Tre University, teaching on the certificate in international commercial and investment arbitration; and a visiting lecturer at SOAS University of London. He has taught international arbitration and international law at other universities including King's College London, University College London, Sciences Po and the University of Versailles.
Hussein Haeri has published numerous articles and is a frequent speaker on the law and practice of international arbitration and international law. He is a member of the ICC task force on trusts and arbitration and an arbitrator panellist of the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC).
