Gustavo Leonardos is a founding partner of Luiz Leonardos & Advogados.
Gustavo was a senior partner of the firm Momsen, Leonardos & Cia for more than 20 years, until Luiz Leonardos & Cia was created as a direct result of the split of Momsen in April 2012.
Gustavo received his bachelor's degree from the State University of Rio de Janeiro in 1985 and was admitted to the Brazilian Bar in the same year. In 1987 he earned his master's degree in comparative law from the George Washington University Law School. In 1989, he worked for WIPO in Geneva as a consultant for the industrial property division until March 1990. He is also a registered industrial property agent.
Gustavo is an active member in the main IP associations, in Brazil and internationally. He was president of the Brazilian Intellectual Property Association for two terms (2004–2005 and 2006–2007). During this period, Gustavo was also a member of the Brazilian national council against piracy and intellectual property infringements of the Brazilian Ministry of Justice. He is also a member of the intellectual property committee of the Brazilian Attorneys Institute.
Gustavo is active in all areas of intellectual property, having been directly involved in all aspects of trademark prosecution and litigation in patent litigation matters; the analysis and recording of technology transfer agreements; and copyright matters, among others. Gustavo's areas of expertise range from companies' IP portfolio management through to complex litigation issues in all spheres of IP, offering strategic advice, planning and structuring of IP assets.
