Such major deals include Saudi Aramco in its US$69.1 billion acquisition of a 70 per cent stake in Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) from the Public Investment Fund in Saudi Arabia; Newmont Mining Corporation (NYSE: NEM) in its US$10 billion acquisition of Goldcorp (NYSE: GG, TSX: G); Sempra Energy in its US$9.45 billion acquisition of Energy Future Holdings; Panasonic Corporation on its equity investment in Blue Yonder; NeuroDerm in its US$1.1 billion sale to Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma Corporation; Saudi Refining (SRI), a wholly owned subsidiary of Saudi Aramco, in the discontinuation of Motiva Enterprises and the division of Motiva's assets, liabilities and businesses between SRI and affiliates of its joint venture partner, Royal Dutch Shell; and Qingdao Haier, a company that is 41 per cent owned by the leading Chinese home appliance manufacturer Haier Group, in its US$5.4 billion acquisition of GE's
