Grant leads NERA’s competition team in the UK and is Head of NERA’s office of 70 professionals in London.
Grant regularly presents economic evidence in competition hearings and has been the named expert in several high-profile cases before the Commercial Courts and the International Trade Commission. For example, he was an expert for the UK Government in the multinational subsidy and tariff dispute between Boeing and Bombardier in 2018.
Grant has significant expertise in economic profitability analysis, assessing the fairness of pricing, and the econometric analysis of competitive forces and damages.
Grant has worked on a wide range of issues and sectors in over eighty assignments, including: leading top companies through more than a dozen market studies and market investigations, such as: Aggregates/Cement, Private Healthcare, Credit Cards, Statutory Audit, Retail Banking, Funerals, Children’s Social Care, and Investment Consulting (and Asset Management); advising on some of the largest State Aid cases in Europe, including: the UK’s Asset Protection Scheme during the financial crisis, the recapitalisation of the Royal Mail Group, and the
Paks II nuclear plant investment; analysing abuse of dominance issues in glass, industrial products, medical devices, mobile handset technology, airline travel agents, steel, polymers, electricity connections, and bank charges; and helping parties navigate the international merger clearances of multi-billion-dollar deals.
In 2015, positive praise from a range of corporate clients led the UK’s consulting industry body to recognise Grant as the Strategy Consultant of the Year for his work applying economics to regulatory strategy.
Grant holds four degrees in economics from the University of Cambridge (UK) and the University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa). He was previously a university lecturer in economics.
