Ginger Heyman Pigott is a shareholder in the Los Angeles, California office of Greenberg Traurig, LLP, an international law firm with over 2,000 attorneys practising across 39 offices. Ginger focuses her practice on products liability litigation with an emphasis on the defence of complex medical device and pharmaceutical products. She handles high-stakes single-plaintiff cases and complex litigation, including multi-district litigations, coordinated state actions and class actions working as both national and regional counsel. She also works with companies to reduce and eliminate litigation risk and has been instrumental in helping resolve pre-litigation claims and achieving early resolution by way of alternative dispute resolution and dispositive motions.
Ginger is a vice chair of the firm's pharmaceutical, medical device and healthcare litigation practice and leads in managing the team of over 100 members, which The American Lawyer named its “Product Liability Department of the Year” for 2018. In this role, she designs litigation strategies for geographically diverse clients on an international scale, and develops alternative dispute resolution programmes.
With admissions to practise in California and Illinois, Ginger has worked on a wide variety of product liability matters, including those related to medical devices; automobiles; soft drinks; welding products and consumables; airplanes; helicopters; rocket-propelled parachute systems; and video games. In both product cases and commercial litigation matters, she has experience with various unfair competition allegations, including those derived from Section 17200 Unfair Competition Law (UCL) and the Consumer Legal Remedies Act (CLRA). She has defended medical device products liability lawsuits involving a range of products, including spinal/biological devices, neurological devices, diabetes management devices, cardiovascular devices, implantable devices for various indications, cardiopulmonary bypass equipment, imaging equipment, and other external medical devices and related equipment. She is also experienced in defending products liability cases involving pharmaceutical drugs, nutraceuticals and biologics.
Ginger also lends her time to serving on a client-initiated diversity and inclusion committee designed to help it and its law firms to find ways to improve the recruitment and retention of diverse attorneys and to include diverse teams on the client’s matters. She also supervises several pro bono matters each year involving a wide range of issues, most recently working with clients who are asylum seekers and refugees.
Ginger has been listed in WWL: Product Liability Defence, The Legal 500: United States and Chambers USA. She was also honoured at the Chambers USA Women in Law Awards, and been named as a “Life Sciences Star” by LMG Life Sciences. Active in professional development organisations, Ginger is a member of the American Bar Association, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the Century City Bar Association, the Association of Business Trial Lawyers (Los Angeles) and the Defense Research Institute.
Ginger is a frequent speaker, and often participates in conferences, seminars and other programmes speaking on product liability, mass torts and other litigation matters. Ginger received her juris doctor from Loyola University Chicago School of Law and her bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan.
