Gerardo has a law degree and a postgraduate degree in tax law from the Panamerican University in Mexico. He also studied at St Thomas University in Houston, Texas, and has a certificate in finance from the Ibero-American University.

Gerardo has more than 33 years of professional experience in tax, administrative law, social security and constitutional law.

He is the former chair of the National Corporate Counsel Association (ANADE), as well as former worldwide chair of the tax committee of Lex Mundi, the world’s best-recognised alliance of independent law firms.

He is a member of the International Fiscal Association (IFA), the International Bar Association (IBA), the International Chamber of Commerce (Mexico chapter) and the International VAT Association, among other organisations.

He is the author of the article, “Unconstitutionality of the Asset Tax Law”, and creator of the “perimetric principle”, a legal tool for the interpretation and application of double taxation treaties, which has been analysed by Mexico’s Supreme Court.

Gerardo has been professor of tax law at the Panamerican University (Mexico City and Guadalajara campuses) for over 20 years. He is frequently invited as speaker in different venues in Mexico and abroad by various universities, chambers of industry and commerce, and other organisations, including: ANADE, the American Bar Association, the International Bar Association, the International Fiscal Association, Lex Mundi, the Association of Corporate Counsel, the Canadian Corporate Counsel Association, the International VAT Association and the Colegio de Abogados in Madrid.
