WWL says

Frances Dethmers is recommended by sources across North America, Asia and Europe as "both an extremely skilled economist and lawyer". Her practice encompasses a large range of behavioural matters.

Frances Dethmers’s practice focuses upon European competition law. She has extensive experience in advising clients from a wide range of industries on merger control procedures, cartel investigations, abuse of dominance investigations, intellectual property issues and licensing and distribution agreements.

Prior to joining Allen & Overy, Frances spent 16 years at another leading law firm practising competition law, including 11 years as a counsel, splitting her time between Brussels and Amsterdam. Before that, Frances worked for the Dutch Competition Authority as well as for the European Commission, where she gained first-hand knowledge of their internal procedures.

Frances has degrees in economics and law from the University of Amsterdam. As a result, she has an in-depth understanding of the economic concepts and analytical techniques at the heart of competition law.

Frances is the co-author of The Economic Assessment of Mergers under European Competition Law and a regular contributor of articles that provide insights into the latest antitrust developments.

Clients describe Frances as “particularly adept in economics and how it affects competition law. She is extremely capable, very practical and responsible, really excellent. Frances really inspired confidence." (Chambers Europe, 2016).

Allen & Overy's antitrust and competition practice comprises over 120 specialists operating across Asia, Australia, Europe and North America. The practice advises corporate clients and financial institutions on their global antitrust policies, litigation and regulatory strategies and has acted on some of the highest-profile and most complex cases in recent years.
