- state aid, with particular expertise in the banking sector.
We have extensive experience in litigation and arbitration, including international commercial arbitration, investment treaty arbitration, and securities and financial services litigation. We have been engaged in some of the most complex and
high-profile financial and non-financial disputes of recent years. Our experts have provided testimony in all the major international arbitration forums, including ICC, ICSID and LCIA, and under UNCITRAL rules and in the English High Court.
We have valued assets in dispute across a range of industries, but with particular experience in energy and financial services. We have assisted clients with cases in South America, Africa, Russia, Central Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
With trained economics, financial and accounting professionals using powerful analytical tools we are able to provide valuation and causation evidence involving a wide range of complex and contentious issues. Financial Economics
The valuation of damages, firms or assets in general is founded on the principles of finance and financial economics. At IEF we have financial economists with training from top universities. Through a detailed knowledge of the financial economics discipline, our consultants can develop the best valuation options for a given situation. Furthermore, a thorough understanding of the principles and theory allows us to explain to a court or arbitration tribunal not only how a particular approach is applied, but also why certain courses of action may be right or wrong in specific circumstances.
We have experience giving evidence on complex valuation issues including:
- technical issues in estimating discount rates;
- the effect of liquidity and control on asset value;
- country risk, with specific experience quantifying exposure in the context of investment treaty arbitration; and
- derivative pricing, including binomial pricing, Monte Carlo and the pricing of real options.
Our experts have the technical experience and education to provide the robust financial analyses required in litigation and arbitration cases. We also understand the importance of presenting these analyses in clear, concise and well-supported manners in both written and oral testimony.
Areas of Particular Expertise
