In today’s economic environment, the concept of “doing business” has become increasingly complex. More and more businesses have become global, and even local ones are affected by global forces and trends. In 2005, DLA Piper became one of the world’s largest and most prominent legal service providers through a merger of unprecedented scope. The motivation for doing so was not about size or prestige or putting pins in a map. It was to create a global organisation capable of quickly and efficiently serving the most important legal needs of clients wherever they do business; whether it is across multiple jurisdictions or in a single market.
Today, DLA Piper has 4,200 lawyers in more than 30 countries throughout the world’s established and emerging business centers across the US, Europe, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East. With a presence in Latin America since 2010, the firm recently completed a combination in Mexico City with Gallastegui y Lozano, SC. The combination brings DLA Piper’s global platform and breadth of practice areas together with the longstanding and distinguished reputation of GyL, which has a 30 year history in the Mexican legal market. It also enhances DLA Piper’s growing capabilities and strategy in Latin America, including the firm’s presence in Venezuela with DLA Interjuris Abogados in Caracas, and its cooperation agreement with Campos Mello Advogados and foreign consultancy in Brazil. DLA Piper believes such a rich global network is only valuable if it helps to better serve the needs of the client. The firm is able to offer clients the advantage of one outside law firm with the depth and geographic coverage to meet most, if not all, of their legal needs around the world.
