Filipe Vaz Pinto acts as counsel and arbitrator in international and domestic arbitrations, as well as in ancillary judicial proceedings.
He is a partner with Morais Leitão, Galvão Teles, Soares da Silva & Associados, one of Portugal's leading law firms, heading one of the dispute resolution teams.
Filipe specialises in corporate and contractual disputes particularly those arising from M&A transactions, joint-venture and shareholder agreements, distribution agreements, construction and infrastructure projects, concession agreements and energy-related contracts.
Filipe’s recent track record as counsel covers a variety of industry sectors, including aviation, banking, construction, commodities, defence, energy, food and beverage, infrastructures, media and advertising, mining, public-private partnerships and telecommunications.
Filipe’s work is especially focused on Portugal and Portuguese-speaking countries, particularly Angola and Mozambique.
Filipe serves as arbitrator and has acted as arbitral secretary. He was sole arbitrator in the first arbitration conducted under the new 2016 Portuguese Commercial Arbitration Centre Fast Track Arbitration Rules.
Filipe is a member of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR and a member of the emergency arbitrator task force, as well as of the Portuguese ICC national committee.
He is a board member of the commercial arbitration centre of the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where he was one of the people responsible for the drafting of the new set of rules of arbitration.
Until 2016, Filipe was also a board member the Portuguese Arbitration Association’s under 40 section.
Filipe participates as a lecturer in post-graduation courses.
In 2015, Filipe was awarded the "40 under 40 award" organised by Iberian Lawyer, which distinguishes 40 lawyers under the age of 40 in Portugal and Spain.
