This year’s publication covers 17 different practice areas and recognises 136 individuals, eight more than in our previous edition. The largest chapter is energy and natural resources, which singles out 28 first-class practitioners. The depth of expertise in this sector is not surprising given the country’s significant oil industry, as well as the growing importance of gas and other non-oil forms of energy.
Twenty-six lawyers stand out for their skills in arbitration, which remains a very popular mode of settling domestic and international disputes. Top-notch litigators have also had a very busy year with the investigations, labour and employment, and energy sectors yielding a great deal of work. This year we list 25 individuals, five more than last year.
We also feature two practice area overviews written by leading experts. Dorothy Udeme Ufot, SAN, FCIArb, of Dorothy Ufot & Co takes an in-depth look at developments in arbitration during the past year. Etigwe Uwa of Streamsowers & Köhn provides an overview of insolvency and restructuring legislation in Nigeria and explores whether it needs to be updated.
