Most of the firms in our research are full service outfits, well known for work in a range of practice areas. The research this year highlights how the country’s strong and stable real estate, natural resources, banking, trade, M&A and competition sectors continue to keep lawyers busy with a high quality of national and international work. Low interest rates have played an important part in securing unsecured debt, as has Canada’s impressive export levels, mainly in energy and minerals. The effects have been an increase in the number of public offerings in the real estate market, and the level of work is reflected in our 36 listings, and trading and regulatory work in the banking field, showed in the 34 listings in that chapter, which to a degree funds the country’s oil and gas and mining ventures. We list 30 and 49 lawyers in those chapters, respectively. Overall, we list a greater number of highly nominated lawyers in more practices than ever before.
