This past year the Brazilian legal market has enjoyed a boost as the country prepares to host various sporting events in the next two years. We can identify a continuing trend in product development, corporate ventures, projects and dispute resolution in the country. Brazil’s complex labour regulations and flourishing arbitration and corporate litigation systems have generated strong practice expertise, which is recognised in our research. The M&A chapter is a testament to this with 40 inclusions, and the competition section lists 37 lawyers, followed by the arbitration chapter with 28 lawyers. The Brazilian legal market is changing along with its economy, and legal practice areas continue to go from strength to strength, with exceptional practitioners across an impressive 31 chapters.

National sporting events, the recent discovery of large quantities of oil, the increase of the sovereign debt rating to investment grade, and growth in foreign direct and outbound investments will all have a significant impact on the type of work lawyers will be doing in the coming years and evolution of practice groups.
