Eugene Schoon, senior counsel at Sidley, focuses on product liability defence, with emphasis on mass torts, MDL and cross-border litigation, and class actions. Gene has experience in defending cases involving anticoagulant drugs, cholesterol lowering drugs, antifibrinolytics, antipsychotics, plasma derivatives, implants and other medical products. He has been engaged as national coordinating and trial counsel for cases in state and federal courts. Gene has defended third-party payer cases, consumer class actions and MDL proceedings in numerous jurisdictions. He has handled major matters for healthcare clients, including False Claims Act Defense, medical liability and tort reform cases and has argued appeals in federal and state appellate courts. Gene has recent successes in the Dr Scholl’s “Custom Fit Orthotics” class actions, in the Phillips Colon Health Probiotic litigation and in ongoing work for a cell phone provider in brain cancer litigation.

When claims arise, Gene guides the client through the claim and resolution process to maximise recoveries.
