Dr Elke Umbeck is a partner at Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek, one of the major commercial law firms in Germany. As a leading partner in the firm's dispute resolution practice Elke is co-heading the firm’s dispute resolution practice group.
With over 18 years of experience Elke Umbeck regularly acts as arbitrator (sole arbitrator, party appointed arbitrator and presiding arbitrator) and counsel in national and international commercial arbitration (ad hoc, CEAC, DIS, ICC, SCC etc) and advises national and foreign clients in complex disputes. Having started her career in the corporate practice group of an international law firm she is dedicated in particular to corporate and post M&A disputes, but her area of practice also covers energy law (eg, gas price revision and gas storage price revision disputes), construction (ie, offshore wind parks) and general commercial law. She has been a lecturer for international private law and international commercial law at the Technical University in Hamburg for almost 10 years.
She frequently publishes articles and regularly holds speeches on international arbitration law. She is member of various arbitration institutions and vice-president of the Chinese European Arbitration Association (CEAA) as well as board member of the Hamburg Arbitration Circle eV (HAC).
Her working languages are German and English, but she also speaks French and Italian fluently.
