Derek Brindle QC is counsel to Singleton Urquhart Reynolds Vogel LLP. His practice focus is on arbitration and mediation of construction and commercial disputes. Derek has extensive experience in construction and engineering claims as litigation counsel on behalf of public and private owners, government, construction and design professionals relating to procurement, infrastructure and complex project related disputes.
Derek is an experienced arbitrator and mediator in construction and commercial disputes both as a sole arbitrator and as an arbitral panel member.
He is a past president of the Canadian College of Construction Lawyers and current member of its mediation and arbitration committee. He is past vice chair of the international construction law and litigation committee of the International Association of Defense Counsel and member of the Defense Research Institute. Derek is a former adjunct professor in construction law at UBC and has frequently lectured on the Osgoode Certificate in Construction Law programme. He has chaired and presented at numerous conferences on construction related topics including delay and impact claims, procurement, arbitration and builders liens. He is published in the Construction Law Reports and past co-editor of the BC Builders Lien Practice Manual.
