Declan Magennis has in-depth knowledge of the field of restructuring and insolvency, working on various types of liquidations.
Declan is a director of BDO Cayman’s corporate recovery and insolvency subsidiary, BDO CRI (Cayman) Ltd.
Declan has over 16 years’ experience in restructuring and insolvency, and previously worked in financial services and restructuring in Ireland. Declan is a court appointed liquidator in the Cayman Islands. He has worked on a variety of engagements, both solvent and insolvent, including voluntary, provisional and official liquidations and both creditors and shareholder resolutions procedures. Declan has also conducted financial reviews of companies for financial institutions.
In 2017, Declan was named Accountant of the Year by the Recovery & Insolvency Specialists’ Association Cayman (RISA); the Cayman chapter of INSOL International.
Declan has published several articles, including an insight for the Cayman Financial Review into the settlement deal between the liquidators of the Herald Fund SPC and Irving H Picard, trustee for the liquidation of Bernard L Madoff Investment Securities LLC: “‘Can Do’ Approach Heralds Quick Settlement for Madoff Investors”.
Declan regularly speaks at conferences on insolvency matters, asset-tracing and fraud investigations. Most recently Declan spoke at the RISA South Square Cayman Conference; the Campbells Fund Focus Conference in Cayman; the KNect365 Asset Recovery Americas Conference in New York; the NAFER Offshore Chicago Conference and the KNect365 Asset Recovery International Conference in Dublin.
Declan is a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) and obtained an LLB law degree from London Guildhall University. Declan is a founding member and current board member of RISA Cayman.
