Daryl Chew is a partner in Shearman & Sterling's international arbitration practice and head of the firm's Singapore office.
He has advised and represented clients in arbitrations conducted under most major arbitration rules (including AAA, ICC, LCIA, LMAA, HKIAC, SIAC and UNCITRAL rules). These matters have involved a wide range of applicable laws and venues, arising from energy (oil and gas, nuclear and renewables), construction (infrastructure, shipbuilding, power, industrial and petrochemical plants), M&A, joint venture, shareholder and general commercial disputes.
Daryl also serves as presiding arbitrator and sole arbitrator in institutional and ad hoc arbitrations.
Daryl consistently features as a leading individual in all major professional directories. Daryl sits on the advisory board of the Singapore Management University School of Law. He is a visiting lecturer at the National University of Singapore and is part of several governmental, global and regional arbitration committees, including the IBA Arb40 steering committee, the ICC Arbitration Group, the YSIAC committee and the SIAC Users’ Council.
Prior to joining Shearman & Sterling, Daryl served as a justices' law clerk at the Supreme Court of Singapore, clerking for the chief justice, justices of appeal and judges of the High Court.
A Singaporean national, Daryl is admitted in New York and Singapore. He speaks English and Mandarin.
