Daryl Chew is a partner in Shearman & Sterling's international arbitration practice and the managing partner of the firm's Singapore office.
Daryl has advised and represented clients in numerous arbitrations conducted under most major arbitration rules (including ICC, LCIA, LMAA, HKIAC, SIAC and UNCITRAL rules). These matters have involved a wide range of applicable laws and venues, arising from energy (oil and gas, nuclear and renewables), construction (infrastructure, shipbuilding, power, industrial and petrochemical plants), M&A, joint venture, shareholder and general commercial disputes.
Daryl also serves as presiding arbitrator and sole arbitrator in institutional and ad hoc arbitrations. He is a member of the IBA Arb40 steering committee and the SIAC Users Council.
Daryl consistently features as a leading individual in all major professional directories, which have commended his "superb written advocacy", “valuable strategic input”, “outstanding track record” and recommended him for his "consistently high-quality work". He is noted for being “‘one of the brightest’ in the Asian market, with impressive expertise in handling commercial disputes”.
Prior to joining Shearman & Sterling, Daryl served as a justices' law clerk at the Supreme Court of Singapore, clerking for the Chief Justice, justices of appeal and judges of the High Court.
A Singaporean national, Daryl is admitted in New York and Singapore. He speaks English and Mandarin.
