Biography

Cristina Massa, partner at Gonzalez Calvillo, leads the firm’s antitrust and competition practice. She has 20 years of experience in Mexico and abroad, both in the public and private sectors. Before joining the firm, she served as commissioner at the Mexican Antitrust Commission (Cofece).

Cristina counsels and represents major public and private companies as well as investment funds participating in the Mexican market. Her experience includes handling merger control procedures, advising in multi-jurisdictional transactions, design and implementation of strategy, compliance and training programmes for major companies, lobbying, advice and representation of clients in investigation proceedings (cartel behaviour, abuse of dominance and barriers to entry, including applications to the leniency programme), among others. She has a developed practice in regulated sectors (energy, telecoms), including compliance and government affairs.

She obtained a law degree with highest honours from the Mexico Autonomous Institute of Technology (ITAM) and a master's degree (LLM) from Harvard Law School, where she attended as a Fulbright scholar. She is admitted to practice in New York.

Cristina is a leading light in diversity and inclusion initiatives; she is a co-founder and member of several organisations and women networks, including Mujeres Trabajando, AbogadasMX. She has been nominated by Chambers and Partners for the Women in Law and Diversity Awards, respectively.
