Cosima Trabichet-Castan is commended for her deep knowledge of real estate deals and contracts in the Swiss market.
Cosima Trabichet-Castan has been a partner with Meyerlustenberger Lachenal since January 2020. She specialises in real estate and rental law, advising clients on high-value real estate transactions and construction projects, as well as on rental law and property development issues. She is recommended as “very efficient” by The Legal 500.
Born in Zurich and raised in Geneva, Cosima Trabichet-Castan is fluent in French, English, German and Spanish. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in 2009 from the University of Fribourg after completing the curriculum in both French and German. She then continued her studies at the University of Geneva, obtaining a master’s degree in business law and a certificate in transnational law in 2011. She spent her last semester taking part in an exchange programme with the McGill Faculty of Law in Montreal.
Back in Geneva in 2012, Cosima Trabichet-Castan started working for Meyerlustenberger Lachenal as a junior associate. After passing the bar exam in 2014, she returned to the firm as an associate. Having had the opportunity of working on several complex real estate deals, she quickly became passionate about real estate law, mainly because of its tangible nature compared to many other fields of legal practice. Her proficiency in rental law allowed her to be appointed as an assistant judge at the Geneva Court for landlord and tenant disputes (landlord side) in 2016. In 2019, she obtained a master’s degree in real estate from the Geneva Institute for Real Estate Studies (IEI), a programme certified by RICS, allowing her to strengthen her expertise in this area of the law.
Cosima Trabichet-Castan has also acquired several years of experience in the field of labour law, mainly by delivering presentations to HR professionals, from both local and big multinational companies, at the Fédération des Entreprises Romandes (FER). Her know-how allows her to efficiently advise employers on any questions relating to their contractual relationship with their employees, as well as on contentious cases.
As a litigator, Cosima Trabichet-Castan represents clients in civil and administrative litigation proceedings across all French speaking cantons of Switzerland. Her expertise in the field of litigation covers not only rental law and labour law matters but also other matters generally involving contractual agreements, including debt collection proceedings.
Cosima Trabichet-Castan is a member of the Geneva Bar Association (OdA), the Swiss Bar Association (SAV) and the Swiss Arbitration Association (ASA). Her focus on real estate also led her to become a member of the Geneva Real Estate Chamber and of Women in Property Switzerland (WIPSwiss). She recently joined the board of the Geneva section of Domus Antiqua Helvetica, an organisation bringing together the owners of historical properties across Switzerland.
