Colin Johnson is a widely respected expert witness with extensive arbitration experience. He is particularly noted for his work concerning oil and gas and power-related projects.
Colin Johnson is a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA), MBA, and member of the Energy Institute. He has over 25 years' experience as lender, equity investor, developer, and legal and financial adviser in relation to the whole life cycle of large projects (particularly in the energy sector) across over 30 different countries on five continents. He has extensive experience of emerging markets as well as having worked on a number of matters in Europe and North America.
He uses this experience of projects, international investment and structured finance as an expert witness and in investigations.
He also has language capability in Spanish, Portuguese, French and German, which has proved very useful in reviewing documentation or tracking down specific information and links not otherwise available.
Colin frequently acts as expert in international arbitrations and litigation in relation to quantum of claims, valuation of businesses as well as in relation to project financing and the energy sector more generally. He has been involved in both commercial and investor state investment-related cases totalling over US$50 billion in claim value. He has dealt with cases under ICC, ICSID, UNCITRAL, LCIA, DIAC, Dubai Port World, SIAC and other rules.
He also has significant investigations experience including leading investigations in Spain, Portugal and Italy and investigations in various parts of Latin America.
His work has involved sectors including power, oil and gas, renewables, construction, financial services, agriculture, real estate, manufacturing and the public sector.
Prior to joining Charles River Associates Colin was head of international arbitration and head of energy and environment for Grant Thornton.
