Biography

Christian heads the firm’s corporate practice. He advises national and international companies in large M&A-transactions. He has particular experience in public takeovers, private equity and cross-border transactions.

Christian is named as a leading M&A/private equity lawyer by JUVE,  Chambers & Partners, WWL/ M&A and Governance, PLC’s Cross-border Mergers and Acquisitions Handbook, The Legal 500, IFLR1000 and Best Lawyers.

In the past 15 years, Christian has acted as lead counsel of (mostly) bidders, targets and banks on more than 80 planned or executed public takeovers, including many of the largest transactions with a German aspect during this period. In 2018 he was lead counsel in Europe’s largest transaction with a German angle, representing Atlantia in its joint investment with ACS and Hochtief in Abertis and its share in Hochtief (valued at €32 billion). He also represented Perella Weinberg on the Stada takeover by Cinven and Bain, and on the Linde/Praxair merger (the largest M&A transaction announced in Germany in 2017); Goldman Sachs and Bank of America on the €6 billion takeover of Celesio by McKesson (the largest public takeover in Germany in 2014); and Merck on their €15 billion unsolicited public takeover attempt on Schering, and on the €3.7 billion sale of its shares to Bayer AG (the largest unsolicited takeover attempt in Germany since introduction of the Takeover Act in 2002).

Christian Cascante studied in Hagen (BA, business administration) and Tübingen (Dr iur, law), and at the University of Chicago Law School (LLM). He also worked at law firms in London (1994), New York (2001) and Palo Alto (2001).

He is a native speaker of both German and Spanish; is fluent in English; and speaks some French.
