Bharat Anand is a well-known corporate lawyer who is lauded as "among the best" in the international market.
Bharat’s expertise spans a vast range of areas including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and private equity transactions. He focuses on advising financial sponsors on all aspects of the value chain from initial investments to exit by way of M&A and, more recently, de-SPAC transactions involving Indian targets.
Bharat is regularly approached as a strategic advisor on particularly complex or sensitive situations in India. Bharat recently acted on the ReNew SPAC, Softbank on several investments in India, Aakash Education on its sale to Byju’s and Manipal Hospitals on its acquisition of Columbia Asia’s portfolio of 11 hospital sites in India.
Bharat joined Khaitan & Co in 2009 with direct responsibility for the firm’s corporate and M&A practice in Delhi and is a member of the Firm’s National Executive Committee. Prior to joining Khaitan & Co, Bharat had a successful career at the London offices of Freshfields from 2001 until 2009.
Bharat plays an active role in leading industry associations in India. He is co-chair of FICCI’s committee on stressed assets and part of the Delhi Chapter of YPO.
Bharat read law at Jesus College, Cambridge, as a Cambridge Commonwealth Scholar and is an alumnus of St Columba’s School.
