Ben Johnson is a chartered accountant and a managing director at FTI Consulting. He has been based in Hong Kong since 2015.
Ben provides expert financial advice in contentious contexts, including in international arbitration, litigation, expert determinations and regulatory matters. Ben’s experience includes the quantification of lost profits; valuations of assets and businesses; assessments of wasted costs; advice relating to accounting matters; and advice in the context of competition and regulatory investigations. He has worked on matters in various industries, including financial services, energy, pharmaceuticals, retail, infrastructure and telecoms.
Ben has been appointed as an expert and has given testimony on the assessment of losses before an ICC arbitral tribunal. Over the course of his career, Ben has been involved in the preparation of more than 60 expert reports across some 50 matters, for submission to UK, US, Irish, Hong Kong and Cayman Islands courts, as well as in arbitrations under the rules of the ICC, AAA, HKIAC, CIETAC, UNCITRAL, SIAC and CRCICA.
Ben also delivers training courses to law firms on the quantification of damages, valuation, working with and cross-examining expert witnesses, and other issues. Ben has published articles on topics including the assessment of country risk in the quantification of damages.
Ben is a practising associate member of the Academy of Experts and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. He was listed in the ICAEW’s International Order of Merit. He also holds a first-class honours degree in economics from the University of Warwick.
