Bastien Thomas is a partner in the Paris-based competition practice of Racine, one of the main independent French business law firms with over 200 lawyers acting as advisors, litigators and arbitrators in all business-related areas (M&A, competition, real estate, labour, commercial, IP, tax, restructuring & insolvency).
With over 15 years of experience in competition law to his credit, Bastien specialises in antitrust (anticompetitive agreements and abuse of dominant position), merger control, both at French and EU levels, and State aid.
Focussing his expertise on advising French and international companies on complex and challenging competition law issues, Bastien has acquired extensive experience in and knowledge of very specific sectors such as energy, automotive and mobility, digital, agri-food, health and media. He represents clients before French and EU competition authorities and courts.
Well recognised in his fields of expertise, Bastien is the author of several papers on competition law and is notably a regular contributor to the French quarterly review Concurrences.
In addition to being an active member of the competition law practitioners’ community as a member of the APDC (French competition practitioners association), the AFEC (French association studying competition law) and the ASAE (State aid monitoring association), Bastien is a lecturer in European and international competition law for the Panthéon-Sorbonne University, Columbia University and Sciences Po Master 2 academic partnership.
Holding a MBA from Essec Business School and a master’s in European business law from Panthéon-Assas University, Bastien’s native language is French and he speaks English fluently.
