Bart Maes is the principal of one of the leading Dutch corporate immigration law firms. Bart specialises in employment law and international labour migration, and has been active in this field for 20 years. He and his team cover the entire spectrum of Dutch employment and cross-border labour law, giving a complete picture.
Bart can advise on the stated fields of law. Examples include: giving advice on immigration procedures to allow foreign nationals to stay and perform work in the Netherlands and applications for the necessary residence and work permits. Bart advises on legal compliance and what comes into play when a company wants to bring non-EU/EEA/Swiss nationals to the Netherlands to perform work. This particular issue concerns a range of rules that Bart can apply and set out for his clients. He regularly initiates proceedings against the labour inspectorate in cases concerning administrative fines for (alleged) illegal employment. Another specialisation is intra-EU service provision with the deployment of the non-EU/EEA/Swiss employees of the service provider.
Bart contributes to various legal publications, and is a guest lecturer at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. He teaches courses on immigration, and occasionally consults with the government about best practices/ideas towards legislation.
Clients include a wide range of large multinationals working in IT, telecommunications, construction, the movie industry, etc. His firm, of which he is the founder, was incorporated in 2020 but is a spin-off of Maes Staudt Advocaten which was established in 2008. The team at Maes Law still consists of specialists from the Breda branch of Maes Staudt Advocaten and maintains its high standards.
