Arild Dyngeland is a partner in Advokatfirma Alvheim og Hansen ANS. He has more than 20 years’ experience as defence counsel, and has been involved in several high-profile cases with international aspects.
Arild focuses his practice on the defence of individuals and corporations in criminal matters, including fraud, tax fraud and corruption. He has extensive experience from representing individuals in trial, as well as in all pretrial stages, including preparations for and during interviews by the investigating authorities.
Arild currently holds a position as regular defence counsel with the Norwegian Supreme Court. He was previously regular defence counsel with the Gulating Court of Appeals and with Bergen City Court.
He focuses on ethics and on the formal framework that the prosecution, the courts and defence lawyers work under, including human rights. He is a director of the Norwegian Bar Association and headed the Bar Association’s advisory committee on criminal law over five years until December 2016. He has previously been the head of a regional disciplinary council of the Bar Association, dealing with complaints concerning alleged breaches of the code of conduct.
Arild holds a law degree from the University of Bergen. He is a member of the Norwegian Society of Criminal law and the European Criminal Bar Association’s organising committee on anti-corruption in Europe. He speaks for other defence lawyers on matters of criminal law, criminal procedural law, professional and ethical standards for lawyers, and lately also on strategies for the defence in the pretrial stages.
