Antonio Bavasso is co-head of Allen & Overy LLP’s global antitrust practice. He is a leading expert in antitrust and regulation, practising primarily in London and Brussels. Over the years he has worked on a number of precedent-setting merger and behavioural investigations, as well as regulatory and antitrust litigation, at EU, UK and international levels.
Antonio's merger control experience includes advising clients on a number of high-profile transactions including News Corp/Sky Italia; News Corp/Sky; Sky/ITV; WPP/Grey and TNS; Sony/EMI Music Publishing; Orange Austria/Hutchison 3G Austria; Wind/Tre Italy; 21CF/Sky; 21CF/The Walt Disney Company; and Endemol Shine Group/Banijay Group.
On the behavioural and litigation side, Antonio has advised Sky (UK litigation on use of foreign decoder cards); 20th Century Fox (EC investigations on use of MFN clauses and digital deployment agreements, the CC reference on supply of movies to pay-TV); Fox Networks Group (EU sports rights investigation); and Qatar Petroleum (EU LNG investigation).He is currently advising a client on the high-profile market study by the CMA regarding online and digital advertising.
Antonio is dual-qualified in the UK and Italy, and has practised in San Francisco. He holds a JD magna cum laude from the University of Florence; and a PhD from UCL, wherehe is a visiting professor and co-founder/director of the Jevons Institute.
