Biography

Annabelle Möckesch is an associate in Schellenberg Wittmer's dispute resolution group in Zurich. Her practice focuses on international arbitration. She has acted as counsel and tribunal secretary in arbitrations, both ad hoc and institutional, in a wide range of disputes, including disputes arising from international construction contracts, share purchase agreements, sales, licence and distribution agreements and international joint ventures. She has also represented parties in arbitration-related matters before Swiss courts.

Examples of Annabelle's expertise in arbitration matters include: representing a South Korean trading company in a Swiss Rules arbitration initiated by a shipping company relating to a dispute arising out of a sales agreement; representing 39 Russian athletes who challenged lifetime bans imposed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) before the Court of Arbitration for Sport; and representing the Russian Federation in two investment arbitration matters in proceedings before the Swiss Supreme Court to set aside interim awards on jurisdiction.

Annabelle is a German-qualified lawyer. She obtained a Master of Laws (LLM) from London School of Economics and Political Science and a doctorate in law from Heidelberg University. Her thesis, Attorney-Client Privilege in International Arbitration, was awarded the ICC Institute of World Business Law Prize 2015.

Prior to joining Schellenberg Wittmer, Annabelle was an associate at an arbitration boutique in Hamburg and assistant legal counsel at the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague. During her legal training, Annabelle worked in the litigation and arbitration departments of several international law firms. She was an intern at the ICC International Court of Arbitration in Paris.

Annabelle is a co-chair of DIS40 and a steering committee member of Young ArbitralWomen Practitioners (YAWP).
