Squire Sanders & Dempsey LLP and Hammonds LLP will be joining forces on 1 January 2011, creating a new top-tier global firm.
The new firm will be called Squire Sanders & Dempsey, however it will use a combined Squire Sanders Hammonds brand in former Hammonds locations.
With approximately 1,275 lawyers in 37 offices across 17 countries, the new firm will expand on pre-existing capabilities in key practice areas related to complex and cross-border transactions and disputes, as well as business immigration, financial services, life sciences, telecommunications and regulatory matters.
Squire Sanders chair James Maiwurm will be global chief executive officer and chair and Hammonds managing partner Peter Crossley will be managing partner for Europe.

Squire Sanders & Dempsey LLP was founded in 1890 and has lawyers in 32 offices and 15 countries around the world.
Hammonds LLP is a leading commercial law firm with offices throughout the UK as well as in Europe and Asia. The firm employs more than a thousand people, including 170 partners, working out of 10 offices in six countries.
