The US Securities and Exchange Commission has named Andrew Vollmer as acting general counsel in Washington, DC.
He replaces Brian Cartwright, who left the agency to return to the private sector.
Vollmer joined the SEC in 2006 as deputy general counsel and before that, he was a partner at the international law firm, Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP.
In his new role, he will act as chief legal officer and will head the general counsel office, which advises on all legal matters for the commission including enforcement actions, rule-making, appellate briefs and adjunctions.
