On 1 March, Quinn Emanuel Urquhart Oliver & Hedges LLP opened its first European office in Mannheim, hiring leading patent lawyer Markus Grosch from Allen & Overy LLP.
Grosch heads the Mannheim office, which employs a team of six lawyers.
Quinn Emanuel considers the Mannheim office as a major step forward for the firm’s IP practice, stating that Germany has become the ‘epicentre for patent litigation in the EU.’
The new opening is part of the firm’s intention to develop its integrated transatlantic patent litigation practice.
Grosch is an internationally recognised expert in patent litigation and has represented companies in various industries such as finance; health care and technology in both German and cross-border litigation.
Most recently, he led the team that successfully represented Helix Medical LLC in a patent infringement action against Atos Medical AB relating to the heat and moisture exchange filters sold in Germany.
Grosch also teaches patent law at University of Freiburg.
He is featured in The International Who’s Who of Patent Lawyers.
