Lee Paul, Robert Hastings and Leonard Janofsky established the office of Paul Hastings Janofsky in 1951 in downtown Los Angeles. Charles Walker joined in 1962 to form what is now known as Paul Hastings Janofsky & Walker LLP.
The firm opened its Atlanta office in 1980 and has grown to more than 1,100 lawyers practising in 18 offices around the world. As one would expect from such a sizeable firm, Paul Hastings serves a diverse client base across many practice areas.
The firm’s Atlanta office is strong in Corporate Immigration, where it not only possesses the most nominated individual in the chapter but also boasts more nominees than any other firm. Daryl Buffenstein is internationally renowned as one of the finest practitioners in the field. Joining him in the chapter are Deborah Marlow, Karen Koenig and Kyle Sherman, all of whom are among the luminaries. Our research indicates that Paul Hastings maintains an equally well-respected practice on the management side of labour and employment law, with four inclusions in that chapter – more than any other firm. Geoffrey Weirich and John Wymer both come highly recommended by some of the industry’s leading lights, who picked out Weyman Johnson and Leslie Dent for their contribution to the practice. The firm is also well-known for franchise work. Richard Asbill is universally recognised as one of the authorities and is joined in the publication by partner Andrew Scott, yet another high-profile name. With two of the industry’s leading practitioners, Paul Hastings takes pole position in our findings. The firm also has three in the M&A chapter – Walter Jospin, Frank Layson and Wayne Bradley. Jospin leads in terms of nominations and also appears in Corporate Governance, underlining the firm’s corporate credentials. These are boosted by two nominations: Elizabeth Noe and Chris Molen, in Corporate Governance and Banking respectively. Jesse Austin’s appearance in the insolvency and restructuring chapter wraps up a strong showing for a firm that won the general admiration of those we canvassed.
