Michael Solender is appointed to general counsel of financial services company

Banking and financial services group Washington Mutual has appointed Michael Solender as its new executive vice president and chief legal officer.
Solender joins from Bear Stearns where he was general counsel and managed the 500-person legal and compliance department.
In his new role, he will be responsible for overseeing all of the company's legal and government relations and will serve on the executive committee.
He succeeds Stewart Landefeld who is returning to private practice at Perkins Coie LLP.
