McDermott Will & Emery LLP has launched an office in Paris with the hire of leading competition partner Jacques Buhart.
The new office will meet the needs of multinational clients operating in France and will offer a variety of the firm’s key services including corporate, tax, competition, employment and litigation.
Buhart who was head of the corporate and competition group at the Paris office of Herbert Smith LLP, will lead a team of five partners joining McDermott’s Paris office.
He concentrates on EU competition rules and mergers and acquisitions, and has handled a broad range of complex competition matters as well as litigation in the European Courts in Luxembourg.
His representative matters include acting for Canon in its acquisition of OCE, representing oil corporation TotalFina in its acquisition of Elf and AT&T in its acquisition of IBM Global Network.
“We’re delighted to welcome Jacques and his team to the firm,” said Peter Sacripanti and Jeffrey Stone, co-chairs of McDermott Will & Emery. “Opening in Paris with such a high level and well-regarded team of experienced partners is an important strategic move with numerous benefits to our clients.”
“We are all delighted to join McDermott,” Buhart added. “The firm’s strong capabilities in the US as well as its presence across key European countries, provide an overarching platform for each of us to service French and international clients in their French and international operations and litigations.”
Herbert Smith has wished Buhart well in his career on the competition front.
He appears in The International Who’s Who of Competition Lawyers and Economists.
