McDermott Will & Emery LLP has hired competition expert Martina Maier as a partner in its Brussels office, who will replace Clive Stanbrook QC as head of the competition practice.
She joins from Howrey LLP and is set to take over as European head of competition at McDermott Will & Emery on 1 January 2011.
Maier has broad experience in antitrust and competition with particular focus on state aid, merger control, competitive agreements and abuse of dominance. She has specific experience in the automotive and energy sectors, and has represented clients including Ford Motor Company, Slovak Telekom and Railteam Alliance.
“I am delighted to be joining McDermott and to be working once again in the context of a diversified business practice, advising clients on all aspects of competition law,” commented Maier. “McDermott Will & Emery is a great firm with a fantastic reputation in the US.”
Trevor Soames, co-chair of Howrey’s global competition practice in Brussels, says: “We have enjoyed having Martina with us at Howrey and the practice that she developed in central and eastern Europe produced a number of interesting cases. She has an exciting opportunity to be head of practice at McDermott and we wish her well.”
Maier features in The International Who’s Who of Competition Lawyers and Economists.
