Maples and Calder has welcomed private funds lawyer Richard May as a partner in its British Virgin Islands office and leader of the investment funds group.
Joining from Walkers Global where he was head of the investment funds group, May is experienced in advising investment managers and private equity houses on the structuring, formation and financing of investment funds and private equity funds. He also advises on corporate transactions including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, stock exchange listings and corporate reorganisations.
“Richard is extremely well respected in the investment funds arena, both for his work on hedge funds and private equity funds,” said Kieran Walsh, global head of the firm’s British Virgin Islands law practice. “Clients appreciate his practical approach to problem-solving and sound technical advice.”
Commenting on his recruitment, May said, “Joining Maples was the right choice for me. A law firm with an international client base like Maples requires the teams in its different offices to work seamlessly together to provide its client base with consistent and quality legal advice. With its one-firm approach and global reach, Maples achieves these goals and provides the ideal platform for provision of the highest quality legal services to our client base.”
May features in The International Who’s Who of Private Funds Lawyers.
