Massachusetts-based Lesley University has announced the appointment of Shirin Philipp as general counsel starting in August.
She arrives from Foley Hoag LLP where she was partner and co-chair of the firm’s non-profit practice group, advising colleges and universities on matters such as governance, legal structures, tax-exempt status, grant agreements and the use of charitable funds. She also represented private companies and investment advisers on financings, founder agreements, fund formation and regulatory compliance.
In her new role, she will be responsible for providing legal advice and guidance on risk management to the university.
Commenting on her new post, Philipp said: “I am thrilled to join Lesley’s vibrant and deeply respected community and the opportunity to play a role in advancing the mission of the students, alumni and faculty, this is a time of enormous opportunity and growth for the university and I am looking forward to contributing as general counsel.”
Joseph Moore, president of the university added that Philipp’s counsel will be “invaluable” for the university’s management and planning.
