Simmons & Simmons welcomes leading energy lawyer Rutger de Witt Wijnen as a partner in its financial markets group in Amsterdam.
He joins from De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek where he spent 22 years in various roles including head of the energy department.
De Witt Wijnen advises financial institutions, governments, utilities, project developers and multilaterals on climate change law and carbon trading, banking and cross-border leasing.
His case history includes leading a team advising Belgian based energy corporation Electrabel, on its involvement in two international carbon funds.
At Simmons and Simmons he will work together with 80 finance partners internationally.
Gerhard Gispen, head of Simmons & Simmons in the Netherlands, describes the appointment as “significant” and says that De Witt Wijnen’s “experience and track record is widely acknowledged”.
New head of energy at De Brauw, Anja Mutsaers says that the firm “appreciates Rutger’s contribution in general but to its energy practice in particular.”
De Witt Wijnen is listed in The International Who’s Who of Oil & Gas Lawyers and The International Who’s Who of Environment Lawyers.
