International law firm Jones Day has hired Marcello Hallake as a partner in its São Paulo office.
He joins from the New York office of Thompson & Knight LLP where he spent six years.
Hallake focuses his practice on mergers and acquisitions and project financing deals.
His previous experience includes representing France Telecom in various M&A transactions in Latin America, the acquisition of Compania de Telecomunicaciones de El Salvador S.A. de C. V and the sale of Telecom Argentina. He also represented Petrobras in cross-border oil and gas, oil shale and EPC transactions in the US, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America.
“We are delighted that Marcello is part of our Latin American practice and based here in São Paulo. His arrival further demonstrates the commitment Jones Day has to investing in the region,” said Luis Riesgo, head of the Latin American practice.
Of Jones Day Hallake says: “I have been impressed with the team, and the strategy and vision of the firm – and its similarities here to my practice, in terms of its focus on M&A and projects, rather than heavily on capital markets as some other firms in Brazil have chosen to do.”
Hallake is listed in The International Who’s Who of Oil & Gas Lawyers.
